Seventh Grade Art Inspiration

Art this year is a year of choices and will hopefully feel more like inspiration than hand-holding. My seventh grader will do at least one art journal prompt and one project prompt each week. She can also do the other prompts or make up her own assignments. Fridays are reserved for finishing each week’s work. If everything is already done, then on Fridays she can doodle or color while listening to music. She can also upload her artwork to her blog, or once she turns 13, to Deviantart. My goal is give her plenty of choices, so she feels inspired, but not trapped. We’ll do some work with techniques this year, but she will be surpassing my skill level soon. I anticipate needing an outside instructor for eighth grade.

Some ideas for alternate activities when she’s not inspired by my suggestions: 300 Drawing Prompts book, doodle books, coloring pages, youtube videos, illustrations for her books, fan art, digital art, anything appealing and creative.

I no longer have a link for the 30 day drawing challenge, but there are plenty to find on the internet. Google or Pinterest will quickly provide you with one to fit your child.

My seventh grader happens to be obsessed with dragons. Drawing prompts are easy to customize for your child’s interest. In a few years, I’ll probably be substituting robot, unicorn, or flower prompts for my youngest child.
