Sixth Grade Writing

6th Grade Composition Schedule

In sixth grade, I focus on fiction writing and learning how to develop a story idea into a novel. My daughter is bursting with story ideas, but struggles to continue past a chapter or two. She spends free time beginning story after story, and I’m hopeful this will help develop her hobby.

In addition, I encourage the child to continue writing on their blog, journal, and/or bullet journal when they feel like it. My plan is to return to Writing Strands in seventh grade.

My husband will also be using this same schedule this year, writing a book alongside my daughter. If I have time, I may also try my hand at it.

ETA: By the end of the year, she had written a 9 chapter, plus epilogue, book. It’s 58 pages, not including illustrations. She was so emotionally invested in the project that she asked me for more resources on specific grammar topics, so she could help herself write a better book. She has already said she plans to write more books. Overall, I’m pleased with our writing detour.
